Sound clips

Computer generated sound clips or nothing?

Is it better to have a computer generated sound clip (of a reasonable standard) if one doesn't have a "real" recording, than have no sound clip at all? Personally, I don't mind computer generated sound. It just requires a little imagination on the part of the listener to realize what it could really sound like. I have written a two hour long opera that has not yet been performed, but the computer sounds for the orchestra are remarkably good. Unfortunately, the vocal sounds are sometimes a bit like a strangled cat (middle register between male and female voice is the worst) but in my opinion, even that is better than nothing. I am planning to make a professional recording of excerpts from the opera, but that will be with a piano reduction accompaniment, which says nothing about the orchestration. I would be really interested to hear what other folk have to say on this matter, as I know if there is no sound clip attached to the music, often it is bypassed.
